If you are still using Windows Vista and want to add some extra performance, then these tweaks are worth a try. Vista is known to be a sluggish operating system if you don’t have high end hardware. Don’t worry, Vista performance can be boosted without too much trouble.

These three tweaks should add some performance and responsiveness to Vista. Some tweaks work better than others, so you will need to try different things for optimal gains.

To start off with, turn off services that use a lot of resources and aren’t all that useful..

Turn Off Resource Intensive Services

1) Turn off Remote Differential Compression (RDC)

Remote Differential Compression (RDC) allows programs to sync data between two computers in an efficient manner. The synchronization efficiency is made possible by using compression techniques to minimize the amount of data sent across the network. But it can slow things down

To switch it off:

- Control Panel -> Programs and Features
- On the left menu click on “Turn Windows features on and off”
- Uncheck Remote Differential Compression

2) Turn off Windows Search Indexing

To speed up searches and search capabilities, Windows Vista keeps an up-to-date index of files and folders. This index is updated on a regular basis and can bog down your computer dramatically. If you don’t do a lot of searching, it is worth turning this off.

- Click Start -> Computer
- Right click on c:
- Select the “General” tab -> uncheck Index this drive for faster searching

3) Change hibernation settings

Hibernation is a great feature, but it’s another one that uses plenty of resources and should be switched off if not used regularly. We recommend that you try disabling it to see what kind of performance gains you get.

- Control Panel -> Power Options
- Click Change Plan Settings
- Click Change Advanced Power Settings
- Go to Sleep -> Hibernate After
- Move the selector to 0
- Click Apply

Those tweaks will help add some performance to Vista. The easiest way to boost performance is by using a Vista Registry cleaner. You can download the cleaner free and add up to 300% gains.
